County Ni Home
It started small. A kerosene pump. A roadside fuel stop. A minimart squeezed into the corner of a petrol station nobody expected much from. Eighteen years later, the same business has grown into six branches across central Kenya, built on one stubborn idea: that quality shopping shouldn't only belong to big cities. This is how County grew up.
Talk to UsBefore there was County, there was Magomano. A petrol station with everything a busy junction needs: a small restaurant, a car wash, a service bay, and tucked into a modest corner, a convenience shop. The minimart wasn't the headline; it was the afterthought. A small space, almost an experiment, mimicking what the bigger stations were doing.
Then something unexpected happened. Within two years, that tiny shop began to outgrow its corner. Customers kept coming. Shelves kept emptying. The idea that had been the smallest piece of the business was quietly becoming the biggest one. So the service bay came down. The car wash came down. And in their place, the first real supermarket went up.
“After two years, we saw the real potential was in the shop.”

The original name Magomano Minimart was tied to a place. And a brand tied to a place can only grow so far. As the shop outgrew its corner, the name had to grow too. We wanted something that could travel, a name that wouldn't feel out of place in any town in Kenya.
The choice arrived with its own timing. The year County was christened was the same year Kenya was preparing to roll out its new county system. A name that suggested local pride, national reach, and a country in the middle of reorganising itself , all at once. Strategy met serendipity.
“We needed a name that, anywhere we went in Kenya, would be accepted.”

Our History
From a kerosene pump in Kenol to six branches across central Kenya. Each milestone is a chapter in the full journey that made County Supermarket what it is today.
We set up shop in Kenol, Murang'a , selling kerosene in a sleepy junction town where donkeys filled the market and customers a month apart wasn't unusual. The waiting began.
A full forecourt takes shape: fuel pumps, a restaurant, a car wash, a service bay. A small minimart is added in the corner, almost as an afterthought. We had no idea what it would become.
Two years in, the shop is outperforming the rest of the forecourt. A trip to Murang'a sparks the idea: tear down the service bay, build a real supermarket. The seed is planted.
Magomano Minimart becomes County Supermarket : a name built to travel, christened the same year Kenya's county system is taking shape. Strategy meets serendipity.
A third location, back in Murang'a. Three branches and counting, County is becoming a familiar name across central Kenya.
A fourth branch arrives in Kirinyaga even as the country navigates a difficult year. Growth through the headwinds, a sign of what the next chapter would demand.
We expand into Kirinyaga County. Kagio welcomes us, and we respond with the same standards that built the first branch — quality, affordability, and time for the customer.
County crosses into Nairobi County for the first time. Kahawa West is different from anywhere we'd been before, a residential estate, not a highway junction. The customer here isn't passing through; they live here. We came to be the shop at the end of their street.
We launch on Kenyatta Road in Kiambu County, stepping into the greater Nairobi metropolitan area. Six branches. Four counties. Still the same shop in spirit as the one in the petrol station corner.
A hard year teaches a strategic lesson: don't put all the eggs in one basket. The plan to diversify beyond supermarkets begins quietly.
Eighteen years since the first minimart. Fifteen as County. Twenty-five years in Kenol. The next chapter is already being written.
Long before there was a supermarket, there was a prayer. The promise was simple: if this business is given to me, I will help children stay in school. I will help people in this community. That promise has shaped everything that came after.
Over the years, County has put students through school, not one or two, but more than anyone has bothered to count. We don't bring cameras when we do this work. We don't keep ledgers of names. We help, and we move on. As the business grows, so does the scope of what we want to give back.
“I don't carry my camera when I'm going to do CSR. That is something we do out of our hearts.”
